Hi, hello. It’s been a while! Nearly nine months to the day, if we’re being precise. Earlier this year, life got quite overwhelming so I decided to step away from creating content so I could prioritise rest as well as my health and wellbeing. As much as I adore creating content, I had to hit pause to put myself first. I write this because we often feel guilty for prioritising ourselves but the truth is, you can’t pour from an empty cup. And I had been running on empty for a while.
In my last post, I wrote about the importance of being gentle with yourself and practising self-compassion. It turned out that the post was mainly for me. After writing about the value of slowing down, I was able to hit pause guilt-free. And you know what, nothing broke and I regret nothing. Recognising that you need a break and deciding to put yourself first is one of the bravest things you can do.
I don’t want to dwell too much on what was going on but safe to say my mental health was at its lowest. I was with the pandemic, isolation, work issues and a big bully at the same time. The thing about going through hard times is often the things that you think are going to break you, end up making you. No pressure, no diamonds.
My advice? Please don’t be afraid to prioritise rest. Please don’t subscribe to the cult of productivity. Please listen to your body. You are your biggest investment so pour as much as you need into yourself.
I’ve written various blog posts over the years which cover topics around self-care:
