It feels like a very weird time to be creating and publishing content. The world is slowly grinding to a halt, I have never experienced anything like it. I’ve found the last week hard as I have been self-isolating but it’s important to stay positive and keep hold of hope. I’m focusing on little moments of happiness, including Mother’s Day.
This year, most of us will be altering the plans we had. If you don’t live with your parents, you may not be able to go home and spend time with your family. My parents live in the beautiful Hampshire countryside and my mum is immunocompromised so I’ve decided that it’s not safe for me to travel home. My heart is broken. Right now, all I want to do is be home with my family, particularly on Mother’s Day. My mum means so much to me. So many of my positive traits come from her, from my ambition to my love of fashion.
My normal Mother’s Day routine is to head home for the weekend for some quality time with my mum. I always cook her breakfast on Mother’s Day, it’s a tradition I’ve had since I was young. I always buy her flowers or a plant as she loves them as they brighten up her day. Chocolates usually come with the flowers but we know they’re more for my benefit!
This year, I’ve been trying to figure out how I can show my mum I care without being able to be there. I wanted to share my ideas with you so you can show your mum how much you love her too, whether you’re able to make it home or not.
- A card.
My mum adores thoughtfully-chosen cards and always writes a long message in any cards she gives me. I’ve picked out a lovely card and written a very long message telling her how much I love her and how much she means to me. - A special gift.
Although I’m of the age where I can afford to spoil my mum, she doesn’t enjoy lavish gifts and would prefer I spent money on myself. I’ve picked up some gifts for her from TK Maxx and she feels less guilty about these as she knows they have great deals on amazing brands. I’ve spied a couple of designer handbags already. - Spa day.
My mum and I love experiences so we can create memories together. A few years ago we had a spa day which was super fun and a spa voucher would make a thoughtful gift which can be enjoyed in the future. - Skincare goodies
I love to pamper my mum and skincare is such a lovely way to do it. During her last hospital stay, I created a whole new skincare routine for her and the gift basket of goodies cheered her up. - Champagne.
This is a versatile gift dependant on the budget but I think it’d be cute to buy a bottle of champagne to celebrate at a later date when the world is free of global pandemics.
How are you planning on treating your mum this Mother’s Day?
