Today it was announced that Raf Simons is stepping down as Creative Director at Christian Dior, after just three and a half years at the house. His tenure was so brief I can remember the original statement put out my Dior announcing his appointment. It came as quite a surprise, with his modern, minimalist aesthetic he wasn’t the obvious choice to take the helm at Dior. Dipping into the archives and sensitively updating classics such as the Bar jacket and tweeds, Simons proved that he was more than capable of tastefully putting his own stamp on the storied house of Dior. Since then, his show has been one to watch, whether it’s on schedule in Paris or pre-fall in Tokyo or the South of France in Pierre Cardin’s bubble house.
