Conflicting influences seem to be the running theme this season at London Collections, and James Long’s SS15 collection has one of the quirkiest stories of all; the collection tells the tale of a Thai boxer who falls from grace and embraces Ibiza island life with a dash of ghetto and hippy influences. Still following? The denim-heavy collection features boxing shorts, sheer mesh, deconstructed boxing ribbons and lashings of laid back stripes. Slightly softer than previous collections but still with lashes of James’ directional aesthetic, the collection feels very raw and deconstructed – fitting that James cites Hackney-based photographer Tom Hunt as an influence. Acutely commercial despite the meandering backstory, but wonderful nonetheless.
