Have you spied Topman’s latest collaboration? Astrid Andersen’s 17-piece streetwear collection features her signature oversize aesthetic and is modelled by A$AP Ferg – following in A$AP Rocky’s footsteps after his DKNY campaign. The unlikely inspiration behind the collection was Punjabi basketball players. Astrid found a website with images from the fifties up to present day which show how a national sport became highly Americanised over time. With Astrid’s classic hiphop signature and a colour palette of black, white and carnation pink with metallic accents, this makes for an extremely potent collaboration. Props to Ferg for pulling off the carnation pink tracksuit with aplomb.
If Astrid Andersen wasn’t already on your radar, you have been massively missing out. Graduating top of her class from the prestigious Royal Academy of Arts back in 2010, Astrid has been a staple fixture of the LC:M schedule for the last three seasons and is part of the Fashion East MAN roster. In short, one of the most exciting menswear designers in the last couple of years and this is just the beginning. Now I don’t know about you, but I’m off to treat myself to a piece from her Topman collaboration…
