Last week, the lovely folks at East London Village surprised me with a couple of tickets to the basketball at the Copperbox. Although I don’t really have the time to follow sports these days, when I was younger I was a major basketball fan – I was obsessed with the LA Lakers and obviously the Chicago Bulls for Jordan. As well as following the NBA, I loved street ball which has no referee, few rules and so much more flair and skill. Much like LeBron and Kobe, street ball players earn a cult-like following and the best of the best are picked for the And1 tours. I was lucky enough to score tickets when they bought the tour to London a few years ago and seeing Rafer Alston, aka Skip 2 My Lou, in action on the court pretty much made my year.
Unsurprisingly, the UK basketball scene is literally a different league to basketball in the States. The atmosphere at the former Olympic Park venue was incredible though and it was so great to be there supporting the London Lions, London’s only basketball team. The Lions ended up losing narrowly which was a shame but the home crowd were still proud of our team. After the game, we headed back to Westfield Stratford City to indulge in a bit of TGIs, which is totally my guilty pleasure.
Thanks so much to East London Village for bringing me East-side for a super fun evening.
