A couple of months ago, I found myself spending the weekend in the countryside in desperate need of a hair mask and nothing but a well stocked kitchen. Undeterred, I set about concocting a homemade hair mask out of some kitchen cupboard staples. Since then I’ve been a regular whizz in the kitchen – I still use my oven for storage (mostly shoes) but I’ve been whipping up all sorts of natural beauty concoctions. I’m going to start sharing my favourites with you, starting with the best face scrub you will ever use. Seriously.
My lemon, sugar and honey mask is ace for exfoliating (obviously) as well as moisturising and brightening your complexion, my skin always feels so soft and smooth yet nourished after a quick scrub. Here’s the science bit: Honey is known for it’s antibacterial properties so it’s great for treating spot-prone skin as well as being super moisturising and full of anti-oxidants and free radicals. Lemon is great for clarifying skin, olive oil is a natural cleanser, super hydrating and great for soothing irritation too while sugar is a natural exfoliant. It’s not the most attractive looking scrub but what it lacks in aesthetics, it more than makes up for in skin nourishing action.
The scrub is super easy to make, just mix up the following ingredients into a bowl:
- 2 tablespoons of honey
- 1 tablespoon of lemon juice
- 1 tablespoon of olive oil
- 2 tablespoons of sugar (I prefer brown sugar)
Smooth the scrub onto your face and gently wash it off, the honey and olive oil leave a barrier on the skin so I use a flannel . Owing to the honey and sugar, the scrub is quite sticky so be careful, you have been warned. The pay off is well worth any mess, my skin always feels incredible after, super soft and smooth and pampered.
Can't wait to try this… sounds fabulous!!! Bring me to the kitchen please xo
