Mary Katrantzou is the queen of vivid, explosive prints, so imagine my
surprise when I saw a sleek, refined and more subdued colour palette in her
autumn/winter 2013 collection. Her signature hyper real prints were still there
in spades, albeit in a subtle, restrained form. Soft, almost fragile prints contrasted
with sharp, almost jutting shapes making for a strong statement and distinctive
silhouette. Pieces walked the line between delicate and explosive perfectly. Passive
greys and blues work so well for the autumn/winter season, particularly with
the colour-heavy collections shown thus far at London Fashion Week. Technically
complex, the fabric manipulation through intricate folds and pleats combined
with lashings of embossed leather are stunning. Another breathtakingly
beautiful collection from Ms Katrantzou.
