This time last year, it seemed like the world stood still as
news of Amy Winehouse’s untimely death spread. One of the most sensational and
recognisable voices of a generation, the music world mourned a modern day
rockabilly icon whose legacy was sure to live on. Her music was as unforgettable as
her look, unlike most singers, bands and popstars this look was completely her
own. From the towering beehive and swooping eyeliner to the satin ballet flats
and cinched in mini-dresses, Amy’s style has been revered and replicated. Both
Karl Lagerfeld and Jean-Paul Gaultier cited Amy as a muse for their collections
which featured beehived models with winged eyeliner on the catwalks. Amy’s
fight with her demons has been well documented so I won’t touch on that. I’d
rather remember her as the beautiful, talented young woman she was and be
thankful of the musical legacy which she left behind.
Here are my favourite Amy looks over the years, from her
signature cinched in grey dress and ballet flats to her own line which she
designed for Fred Perry. What’s your favourite look?
Still love that hair and makeup. And the voice, of course! So sad she's gone!
