Lana Del Rey

The latter half of 2011 was all about the one woman wonder who is Lana Del Rey which means that there will be no escaping her haunting melodies in 2012, so I think it’s about time we get properly acquainted. Although she’s been quietly working away for a few years (her first EP Kill Kill was released in 2008), she was only catapulted into the public sphere with the release of the iconic Video Games in June 2011. With her highly anticipated album Born to Die due to be released later this month, 2012 is set to be a stellar year for the singer. Her dreamy, pretty vintage aesthetic has also entranced the fashion world – she’s already landed several covers and editorials as well as performing at the Mulberry dinner in LA and Dior show in Beijing while Christopher Kane and Emilio de la Morena featured her music in their SS12 shows. The cherry on top of the fashion industry approval cake was being signed by Next Model Management.

I’ve seen lots of Twitter talk discussing Lana and people seem to fall into two camps: love or hate. I think something about her is controversial and provokes a strong reaction; this isn’t necessarily a bad thing. I love her beautiful mermaid hair and her style, top marks for the stylist. Retro bombshell with a side of badass, I love the chunky jewels and knuckle duster rings and her Americana-influenced pieces. What do you think of Lana Del Rey?
