One of the most anticipated shows of this couture season, Atelier Versace returned to the couture week schedule after an eight year hiatus. It’s fitting then that the super-brand had a star studded front row including Anna Dello Russo, Cameron Diaz and Diane Kruger to view the 15-piece collection modeled by the likes of Karlie Kloss, Lindsey Wixson, Karmen Pedaru and Arizona Muse. There were some really strong looks, particularly the shimmery slivers of silver Chantilly lace making up the first few looks, the shorter Versace gold dresses and the degrade orange strapless dress. There were weaker looks which looked like an awkward, hurried rehash of previous Givenchy/Armani Prive/Chanel collections. The architectural, sculptural details were a bit of departure from the prettier, more romantic Atelier Versace look – see Angelina Jolie at last week’s Golden Globes or Anne Hathaway’s infamous dress from the Atelier. I’m not sure how many of these pieces will be seen on the red carpet, but I’m sure the likes of Lady Gaga, Nicki Minaj, Beyonce and Kim Kardashian will love them.
