A couple of weeks ago, I headed over to the super cool Bungalow 8 to have a peek at Nine West’s forthcoming collection for the Autumn/Winter 2011 season. From loafers to sequin heels via boots galore, they have next season’s shoe needs absolutely nailed. Taking inspiration from two completel opposite aesthetics, part of the collection is utilitarian and practical whilst the remainder is pretty and feminine. Loafers, block heels and lace up boots make up the functional element whilst shimmery, feathery platforms make up the more fun element. The shapes are classic but with quirky, fashion-led detailing, ensuring that the shoes won’t date and you will adore them for seasons to come. For me, that’s always the sign of a good shoe.
As if that wasn’t enough excitement, they also unveiled their collaboration with the incredible Giles Deacon as part of their new initiative called Shoelaborations, which sees them partnering with young designers, artists and musicians. The collaboration with Giles is very contemporary and fresh, feauring bright flashes of clour on a black background colour and Eek, a little character designed by Giles which is featured on each design.
Giles Deacon said, “Partnering with a global footwear leader such as Nine West has given me the opportunity to expand my reach in the world of accessories and create a collection that reflects my design personality, while capturing the spirit of the brand. I was able to revisit one of my favorite motifs, Eek, and bring him to life through a completely new medium, which is exciting for me.”
