Lace went from wearable to wow in the time it took Christopher Kane to send models down his runway in neon Princess Margaret inspired lace pieces. Plain black and white lace pieces have been around on the high street for a while now, long enough for it to get a little boring, so thank goodness for an injection of colour to brighten things up. White lace dresses and blouses are a wardrobe staple for me as they’re cute, girly and demure but the allure of contrasting pretty lace with a bright shock of colour is growing. At first, I did worry about the practicalities of neon lace, what the hell one would wear with a highlighter pink dress anyway?! I imagine it would take a lot to dress it down enough not to be at the receiving end of bemused looks on the
tube.
Thankfully, Issa launched a capsule collection of covetable, flirty little lace dresses on Net-a-Porter; a bit of a departure from the label’s signature slinky
style. The limited edition collection arrived online about a month ago and features chocolate box shades of bright colours in six different styles, ranging from demure full-sleeve lace to more sexy one shoulder and strapless varieties. This collection is the epitome of something classic being reinvented with a contemporary, cosmopolitan spin.
The high street of course, is on the ball and has plenty of colourful options for those who want to buy into this trend without breaking the bank. My favourites were from fashion department store Very, who stock a colossal amount of brands online. My favourite bright lace dresses were from Rare Fashion’s sister brand Paprika and Love Label. I would experiment by accessorising with clashing brights as well as nude colours to dress it down a little – so many possibilities. Are you going to experiment with bright lace this
season?
