Yesterday, Christopher Kane became the latest in a long line of great British designers to win the BFC/Vogue Designer Fashion Fund. He pipped Osman Yousefzada, Peter Pilotto, Jonathan Saunders, Richard Nicholl, Patrick Grant on E Tauz and Charlotte Dellal of Charlotte Olympia to the £200,000 prize and industry mentoring. Kane narrowly lost out to Erdem last year but deservedly won this year. Though I’m not sure he actually needs the business mentoring as he is clearly one of the shining examples of the new wave of British designers.
Kane has come a long way since starting his label almost five years ago. His first collection was a critical success and he is cited as being one of the reasons fluro became a huge trend in SS 07. Since then he has designed sell out collections for Topshop, collaborated with Manolo Blahnik and Lancome, designed for Kylie and designed for Versus, all while creating successful collections for his own label.
love him!well deserved i say x
