Gosh I Love technology. I’ve always prefered being at a show rather than looking at beautiful images online, the atmosphere, setting and seeing the clothes on a model down the catwalk always help put the collection into context. So I’m over the moon that so many shows are being either streamed live or put onto YouTube after. Here’s an absolutely fantastic collection by Raf Simons for Jil Sander Spring/Summer 2011:
The first few looks seemed like a happy marriage between nu-rave brights and sleek simplicity. Turquoise, fuchsia and orange minimalistic separates almost seemed complimentary rather than garishly clashing. His collection also included stripes and florals. These looks have provoked extreme reactions, some like me absolutely love them but others cannot stand them. I agree that sometimes the entire look is a bit much, but it’s the same can be said for womenswear. But part of the beauty of fashion is creating something extreme. The suits should prove less controversial, with only slightly quirky twists like punctuations of those bright colours, short shorts and accordion pleating. The chaotic print jumpers and colourful trenches were my favourites, along with the sleek suits. Overall, I loved this collection, the crisp classic shapes were typical Simons while the bright pops of colour added a new twist.
